Please forgive my absence here, since I’ve been over at Music Nerdery holding it down, building the rep up, getting jobs and getting paid off of that. Once I got that site established… everything kind of just took off from there and got me distracted. Along with other family drama… and life blessings.

If you just give me a minute… I’m coming back to get back at this. With a whole new layout much like Music Nerdery is about to get. Then we can get back to all hair, all the time. :)

Ovation Cell Therapy: Thoughts and Full Review. | MegaTek vs. Ovation Cell Therapy.

In African American Hair Care, For Everybody, For Hair, Hair Care, Hair Growth, Hair Products, Ingredients, Natural Hair on April 1, 2010 at 2:42 pm

All Gone.

Hey People. Thanks for stopping by.
Welp, I’ve run out of Ovation. And as I promised, I am giving you a full-out review of Ovation Cell Therapy. I’ll try to give you all the Pros and Cons of this product.

Now as some of you know, I went ahead and ordered Ovations “Starter Package” kit, a bundled package of all their products in a smaller, 6 ounce size. This is great, since I really wasnt trying to buy their full-out Kit… as it’s just more than I need with my hair in braided status 90% of the time… and really, $100 dollars is more than I want to spend on just 3 hair  products right now. I’m not broke, but it is a recession kids. So the $60 dollar Starter plan was just right for me.

So in between braiding, I gave my hair a good wash down first with MicroTek Shampoo, a great wash that is good for stripping any dirt and oils out your hair and killing any bacteria/germs on your scalp for good hair growth. Been good to me since I ran out of that Neutrogena a few months ago. From there, I thoroughly washed the hair again with the Ovation Shampoo. Lightly scented and an interesting blue color, its took to my hair nicely and have me a good lather from the get go.  Wasnt too heavy or harsh, and when rinsing, didn’t leave it dry at all. I actually noticed a softer curl to my hair than I usually get with other shampoos… their MegaTek line included.

From there, I put in the rinse out conditioner, the Ovation Cell Therapy itself. It has the same texture and smells much like its cousin, MegaTek Pet Rebuilding Conditioner. It goes into your hair and give it this weird rubbery texture or feeling, but I put it in knowing I was going to leave it in for at least 15 to 20 minutes while I did my thing in the shower. At the end of that 20 minutes… my hair was feeling WELL moisturized and incredibly softer, which is the exact same thing the pet rebuilding conditioner did… but Ovation definitely left it softer.

Finally, I went ahead and put a nice amount of The Ovation Creme Rinse In… that’s the one that you can leave in or use as a daily conditioner if you wish. I just left that in for the last 5 minutes of my shower. Once again, beautifully scented, this went into my hair with a completely different feeling than the Cell Therapy itself… just thick and creamy going in and coming out.  Gave my hair a nice bounce and lightly conditioned feeling even after rinsing… and without leaving a residue type-feeling in my hair. And left it smelling nice and fresh (as most shampoos should).

Now  while I got a great ideal of how the products felt and worked on my hair in the shower, it wasnt until I went to work on my hair where I really felt the results come through. Now with my lovely 4B hair, combing through it post shower is pretty complex. Welp, not this time around. Between the two Ovation Conditioners, my hair was incredibly soft and manageable… and surprisingly easy to get the wide tooth comb through.  I was pretty surprised actually. Also, not a lot of breakage while I’m combing through it… really important to me, since my hair is easy and prone to breaking whenever it feels like it, basically.

After hitting it with some Infusium 23 and a SMALL amount of Darcy’s Peach Kernal Oil, I set my hair up for the blowdry. And I have to say, the biggest results came here. My hair was so soft after blowdrying. It was actually kind of weird. It was well moisturized without feeling to heavy. And it’s actually become better with each use.

Its been a minute since I’ve sat down and blogged like this, so I’ve had the chance to use the whole thing since coming in. And my hair has just become  softer and easier to manage after each use. And I actually MEAN that. It’s not like those commercials that say that in their adverts, then you use it and your hair still feels like crap afterwards. No. This stuff actually worked. And when it comes to leaving your hair soft, manageable and incredibly healthy feeling, this is just about one step up from where MegaTek had me at when I used their products.

Growth for my hair was on par as well… nothing accelerated that I could see by eye, but then again, please consider that I’m using at least 2 other products (Shapley’s MTG, rosemary) for rapid growth. Its kinda like adding extra icing on the cake. Not really gonna make a difference, but its good to have there. lol. I do see much healthier hair than I’ve had with other products in the past. My breakage with this product was normal. Nothing heavy and no unusual shedding. The only thing that’s beating this line of product when it comes to no breakage is the MegaTek Pet Rebuilder. Doesnt leave the supersoftness that Ovation does, but it can stop some hair breakage in a quick minute (with consistent use).

Basically, thumbs are up for Ovation Cell Therapy. I’m don’t know about accelerated hair growth, but it’s defintely great for keeping it soft and manageable. Also really good for bringing out the color in your hair as well. The shampoo is really great for that. As for MegaTek…. since you know… they are the same company… I love their leave in conditioner but I’m also gonna be looking into new ones pretty soon. I will be keeping their MegaTek Pet Rebuilder in heavy for a while… I really like the anti-breakage properties on this one. Its been really consistant and helpful when my hair gets weak or dry… keeps it from breaking.

Also, I’ll be picking up a bottle of MegaTek’s new leave in, silicone/oil free leave in conditioner… their new Avocado Extract spray. It looks and sounds like it has potential.  Ill keep you updated.

Thanks for sticking around.

Ingredient Listing for all the Ovation Products; Thoughts on Darcy’s Botanicals so far.

In African American Hair Care, body products, For Everybody, Hair Products, Ingredients, MegaTek, MircoTek on December 4, 2009 at 4:52 pm

hey people. hope all is plentiful out there in hair land for you.

so im totally geeked. i got my Ovation Cell Therapy and Darcy’s Botanicals a few days ago. i love ordering stuff for my hair. lol. heard nothing but great things about Darcy’s so i was really eager to get my hands on this and get it into my hair.

ive also got alotta requests to list the ingredients on ovation cell therapy bottles since ive got them. im reminded that we need to be aware of what is in our hair products, especially if youre pregnant (hey raina!).  i should have thought about this when i had my megatek bottles, but of course, i JUST threw it away (dammit). but since megatek and ovation are the same company, i figure ill list what i have on here. if i get some more megatek, ill be sure to list those ingredients too.

the ovation special system (starter) kit.

the ovation special system (starter) kit.

alright. so here we go.

Now… on for Darcy’s Botanicals.

The Darcy Power Combo. Most of its for me.

The Darcy Power Combo. Most of its for me.

i have to admit… i heard the best part of Darcy’s, along with the product quality and the fact that everything is all natural/vegan… is the scents that she infuses into her products. i was really eager to give it a smell. i bought the Peach Kernel Hair Milk and Peach Kernel Hair and body oil (right two bottles) for myself. and as promised… the smell is intoxicating. its almost like biting down into a peach… it smells so good. i ended up ordering the madagascar vanilla styling creme for my little sister whos staying with me… so she could stay out of my Peach Hair Milk and Oil. lol. and as a treat… she sent a extra 3 ounce tester of her coconut aloe moisture pudding! free stuff is always great. lol.

ive been thoroughly satisfied with the product as well. i started off with the Hair Milk first, as ive heard nothing but good things about their leave in conditioner products. the hair milk is rich in moisture and creamy without being overly-oily or greasy. it goes on light and absorbs quickly into my braids without a problem. plus, the peach smell is the only thing that seems to overpower the smell that Shapley’s MTG leaves in my hair… which i will forever be grateful for. lol. as for the body and hair oil… its really rich and smells twice as good as the hair milk. not only does my hair love it… my skin is in love too. leaves me moisturizer and lightly scented of peaches. i dont get ashy within 5 hours like i do with most oils, so that is always a plus. lol.

the vanilla styling creme is also a plus. starting off thick and rich, you can rub it with your palms, and it melts into a richly scented conditioner type oil. great for the lil one, who is natural haired, and hair is 4B/thicker/drier than anything you can think of. really good moisturizer for her hair, and shes using it every other day. i use it on my braids once in a while, just for the oils and the vanilla smell.

welp, thats the basic updates and info on darcy’s and ovation. sorry for the long delay. i actually started writing this blog in october and was overwhelmed. it wont happen again. ill be keeping you up to date more often, and more info. pics of progress coming up next! take care.

The New Power Combo: Ovation Cell Therapy and Darcy’s Botanicals.

In African American Hair Care, Hair, Hair Care, Hair Growth, Hair Products, MegaTek, MircoTek, natural hair care on October 15, 2009 at 11:06 am

hey people. hope all is good in hair land.

so after researching and digging deep for the new hair product combo for the next few months… i decided that i was gonna roll with the Ovation Therapy for washing and conditioning, and Darcy’s Botanicals for oils and hair cremes and whatnot. Darcy’s came with a strong recommendation from another hair blogging pro who knows her products. made from all natural, 100% vegan products, its great for naturally curly hair. plus, they have a hair and body oil scented with peach nectar… im intrigued to see what it feels and smells like.

as for ovation, im going with the product to see what the exact difference is between it and MegaTek… since they are from the same company. i had great results with the leave in and wash out MegaTek conditioners stopping breakage with my hair, so i want to give ovation a try and see if theres any real difference between the two. i ended up ordering the special system kit… 6 ounce bottles of the shampoo (which i never use up anyways), creme rinse and conditioner for about $55 dollars. its alot cheaper than ordering the 12 ounce bottle set, which would be $110 easily. ill keep you updated on progress with that as well.

a little later, ill get into the results from shapleys as well. its been REALLY good for me… so well start going through the pros and cons in a little bit.

thanks for dropping by,

-E

So where can I buy all these products you speak of?

In For Everybody, Hair Products on August 20, 2009 at 11:37 pm

Shapley’s MTG, Megatek, Surge, Ovation…. a lot of you have been asking where you can get these products.
i just wanted to make a really quick post about where you can find all these products at.

MegaTek can ONLY be found at amazon.com at this point. you might be able to find other places that sell it, but i can guarantee that amazon will have it for a nice, inexpensive price.
as for Shapley’s, you have two options. you can buy it direct from the merchant at http://www.shapleys.com/… or if you want to save a few dollars… once again, head over to amazon.com.
Ovation Cell Therapy is only sold through their own online hair store, www.ovationhair.com
Surge, however, is a bit more tricky. it seems as if they only seem to sell online through this one site… http://texasbeautysupplies.com/surge.html it looks like they keep everything you need there, however.
things like palmers organic olive oil spray… infusium 23…those things can be bought from  your local drug store, or hair supply place. Sally’s Beauty Supply is always good.if there was anything else you were looking for or asking about, lemme know. ill search it up for you.

tomorrow, ill get on the mirco/megatek shampoo| rinse out/leave in conditioner results. so far, greatness. more to come.

Shapley’s is the Real Deal | Rosemary and Infusium for Strengthening and Growth | Okay. So Ill try Ovation Therapy | Other Hair and Skin Care Nerdery.

In African American Hair Care, beauty, body products, For Everybody, Hair, Hair Growth, Hair Products, natural hair care, Nerdery on August 18, 2009 at 6:35 am

hey people. long time no blog. sorry about that, as i have been birthday partying with friends, sending family back to college, and just generally getting my house in order for the last week and a half.
but lets get back to it. lol.

first and foremost… Shapley’s MTG. wow. what an unexpected win this product has been. i honestly went into using this product with NO ideal how it was going to turn out… and its been nothing but WONDERFUL. the fact that it smells like a barbeque sulfur party in your hair (and everyones invited!!!) is almost negated by the results that ive gotten in the last month alone. ill give you a background on what it is and how ive been using it on my hair.

surprisingly enough, this is (once again) an equine product mainly for use on animals like horses, cats, dogs when they have patchy spots in their fur and need help growing it out. it was brought to my attention by a close friend of mine who has a nerdery for horses AND hair; a great combination. lol. after convincing me of the product, its results, being reassured that this is tested safe for humans (it is),  and being forewarned about the smell, i decided to give it a try. figured i had nothing to lose.
once it got here, i discovered that this was an oil-based product, with a bit of yellow grit (the active ingredients) built in.  i was thinking it would be some kind of creme,  and usually i keep a good oil moisturizer on me, so it was on me to  figure out a way to use it effectively. most of the time, i take whatever oil im using and add it to my daily Rosemary Spray for extra moisturizing. so instead of using my usual palmers organic olive oil for hair as the oil in my Rosemary Spray, i switched it out for the Shapley’s… also hoping it would negate the smell a bit.
well i gotta be honest… the rosemary didnt help the smell ANY. as a matter of fact, the shapley’s just made the rosemary smell worse. hilarious. but i started using it every other day for the last 4 weeks. i try to use MegaTek Conditioner and the Olive Oil spray as a cover for the smell of the Shapley’s, but the smell usually disappears over the span of a day or so. i also gave my braids a weekly rinse, which also helped out alot.
as for my results… ridiculous, frankly. and a little overwhelming.
along the edges of my scalp where there was  no hair (it usually gets braided up)… i have new growth of hair all around. some people like to call this baby hair. iont care what you call it, its GREAT to see it come in so thick and full for once. mainly the results can be seen in the new growth of my hair; the points between my scalp, and the spot where my braids were started. and this is amazing. usually, i can get an half inch out of my hair every 5 to 7 weeks, which is when i usually take out and rebraid my hair. we just passed the official 4 week mark as of LAST monday… and i already have reached the half inch of normal growth… along with extra growth thats just… not normal for me. lol. its to the point where i have to go get my hair rebraided two weeks earlier than normal… because the new growth is out of control (and making my braids look kinda raggedy. lol).

i will go through a few more braiding cycles using this product, then post some pictures of the results. i took photos of where my hair was after getting it trimmed up in late may. hopefully these results are real, and ill see a difference in the photos. but if this is really is my hair… then the results are really, really amazing. i would STRONGLY recommend this product to anyone whos looking to grow out hair… but doesnt mind a product that doesnt smell exactly like peaches and roses. lol. i will definitely keep you updated on this.

next up by special request…
what is and how to make the Rosemary and Infusium 23 moisturizing spray (for Raina).
now rosemary is something i love and adore for my hair. ive harped on about it in several previous blogs. high in natural biotin (wonderful for hair) and supposedly really great for cell stimulation and circulation, this has been nothing but hair nerd win for the last 3 years of this whole hair growth process (thanks for the tip, gramma!). as time goes on, i find leave in conditioners and hair oils that i like to team up with the rosemary for an extra kick. but what i found to be the best so far is Infusium 23. now this was a product that i hadnt used in my hair at all since cutting it all off and starting over… which means it was like brand new to my hair follicles. and the hair LOVES it. especially teamed up with the rosemary.
making it is really easy. follow my previous log on rosemary for pointers. go get some rosemary, boil it down for about 15-25 minutes, run it thru a coffee strainer to remove any dirt or unnecessary grit.  then go ahead and pour that into a spray bottle. from there, i use this formula for mixing the two together… 3 parts (3/4ths) rosemary tea and 1 part (1/4th) of infusium. oil is optional. from there, shake the two up, and get to spritzing on your scalp.
so whats the point of mixing them? well, its basically like a double team for your hair. the rosemary promotes health and normal growth, while the Infusium ensures that my hair stays healthy and strong. while optional, you can throw in an oil like Shapley’s or Palmers Olive Oil… and youve got an all around daily moisturizer that just… cant be beat.
try it out. you can do the rosemary by itself or mix in the infusim and/or whatever oil you like… but its definitely worth a try.

now i didnt forget about the MegaTek in all of this. lol. ive been using MT more as a sidenote to moisturize the braid and hair shaft, while using the shapley’s/rosemary mix  directly on my scalp for conditioning/growth. once i take out the braids in a few days, we’ll get into MegaTek, her cousin MicroTek the Shampoo, and its nephew MegaTek Coat Rebuilder (which is COMPLETELY different than the regular leave in MT conditioner… the Coat Rebuilder MUST be rinsed out according to directions). excited about that too.

okay. ovation cell therapy. wow.
since blogging about it a few days ago, ive noticed that ive received a LOT of hits to the blog from women who are looking for news and results on how Ovation works. which means a LOT of you out there are looking into it and are just as interested in it as i am. i really am intrigued by the product… just not the price. lol. it is okay however… since they do have a 6 ounce starter system for their product… which would be perfect for me. enough to figure out if it works or not, and not too much to be wasted if i absolutely hate it. its still going to be at least $60 for the entire treatment; shampoo, deep conditioner and a leave in creme for daily use. it comes together, and you cant split them apart… making it so pricey. but its better than the $120 that they want for the full starter kit. honestly ladies, its going to be a while before i even get to use it… ive got a full bottle of MicroTek shampoo that still needs to be used in its entirety before i purchase anything else. but yeah. it looks like Ovation is next in line. then Surge.
but again, im jumping ahead of myself. lol. again, ill keep you updated on when i buy and start to use it, of course.

bringing me to other random nerdery… the overWHELMING amount of hair products i keep running into that id love to try. man, i cant keep track… surge, ovation, kinky/curly, pantene, aussie…. so many products, and LITERALLY… so little time. its hard to pick which comes next. but as i find them, i will blog about them… just so i can remember everything i need to get back to.

also, on the skin care tip… Bio Oil has been great for my face, but like i said earlier… is causing some breakouts because of its naturally dense oil texture. great for evening  out the skin tone and helping lil mini wrinkles… not so much for blemishes. so i bought some proactiv to help balance that out. now proactiv has always worked for me when it comes to breakouts. but again, like the hair, there are so many products out there that im ready to test and see what works for me. especially when it comes to my pores. my normal neutrogena pore refining cleanser isnt kickin it anymore. :( after asking my girls, i found some great products from several different brands and techniques im looking into. oil cleansing, mud masks (always effective), aveeno, clinque and the winner so far… murad. everything is offering something different… but im just keeping an eye out for anything that helps with pores and stops these wrinkles from coming in. again, ill keep an eye out and keep you updated.

well, thats basically everything ive got for now (which is still to much, lol). ill be back in no more than 2 days to tell you how the MircoTek goes with my hair. looking forward to it.

Surge vs. Ovation Cell Therapy: The $110 Hair Commitment?

In beauty, body products, Hair, Hair Growth, Hair Products, Nerdery on August 4, 2009 at 4:06 pm

boy. i dont know about this one.
ive been reading a lot about a new product on the market called Ovation Cell Therapy.  ive also been doing a little bit of research on the product, and what the big deal is. what ingredients are they using, what are the results people have been getting, and most important, is it really worth the $100 (plus shipping) they are asking me for.
http://www.ovationhair.com/

now, i have no problem spending the money. however, if i am going to do it, id love to know that there WILL be some kind of results. other than the online guarantee you get at the site, and their testimonials (that i dont even know are real or not). but i wouldnt be intrigued if there were not decent reviews out there in google land.

really, ive been looking around at several products lately… im just hearing about something called surge. supposedly really great for accelerated hair growth and repair. they have a braid sheen and everything. too bad its kinda hard to track down on the internet. not really available on amazon like other products… gotta go hunting for this one. however, the talk ive heard about it is great, and its not nearly as high priced.

eventually, i plan to use both, but surge seems to be winning right now.
ill keep you updated, since im still in the middle of MegaTek and Shapleys right now.

since were on that, might as well talk about what progress im getting out of MT and SMTG. so far… its been wonderful. growth and thickness wise. ive combined the shapleys with my daily rosemary spray (and no, it did NOT help the smell at ALL, lol) and have been spraying it directly to the scalp and root of my hair.  ive been taking the megatek after that and moisturizing the remaing shaft of my hair/braids, and sprizing it with a little palmers olive oil for extra spoilage.

now maybe its just me, but i have a LOT of new growth already for my braids, and i just got them done three weeks ago. were at a point ALREADY where i would normally get my hair rebraided because some of the new growth (especially in the back of my head) is serious and long. and the thickness from the megatek is ridiculous. my braids are frizzing out with whatever results im getting right now. plus, as always, megatek leaves my braids feeling nice and conditioned, while neutralizing the shapley’s smell.

greatness.

really excited to see what its looking like in about 2 or 3 braiding cycles (12 to 18 weeks).

anyways, if youve heard of any of these products before… let me know if you had any results or good progress with them. im always looking for feedback.
